DT Global is seeking experienced Telecommunications Engineers for the Radio Network (Rollout) Expert and Transmission Expert roles under the GIZ Digital Connectivity Project in Africa.
The positions are designed for senior professionals with extensive expertise in ICT infrastructure deployment, network rollout, and fibre transmission systems within complex development environments.

Role Overview
The selected expert(s) will support the planning, design, and implementation of radio and transmission infrastructure rollout initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The role reports directly to the Project Director and requires both technical expertise and advisory capacity within development cooperation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Radio Network Rollout
- Plan and design radio network deployments including:
- VSAT
- Microwave systems
- e-LTE networks
- Conduct needs assessments for rollout projects
- Collaborate with public and private stakeholders
- Identify and assess suitable sites considering:
- Accessibility
- Security
- Power availability
- Develop cost estimates and budget frameworks
Transmission & Fibre Optic Infrastructure
- Plan and design backbone and fibre optic networks including:
- Fibre to the Home (FttH)
- National or regional backbone infrastructure
- Conduct technical feasibility assessments
- Support transmission system architecture planning
Technical Advisory & Oversight
- Provide guidance on:
- Industry standards
- Design best practices
- Procurement processes
- Identify and engage equipment vendors
- Advise on construction timelines and implementation quality
- Ensure compliance with safety standards
- Deliver agreed outputs and report progress to the Project Director
Required Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree or German Diplom in:
- Engineering
- Business Administration
Language
- English proficiency at C1 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
Professional Experience
General Experience
- 8 years of professional experience in ICT infrastructure development (data centre industry)
- 8 years of professional experience in infrastructure development within the data centre ecosystem
Specific Experience
- 6 years of hands-on experience in:
- ICT network rollout
- Transmission and fibre optic infrastructure deployment
Regional & International Experience
- 5 years of professional experience in Sub-Saharan Africa
- 5 years of professional experience outside Sub-Saharan Africa
- 3 years of experience in development cooperation projects
Leadership
- No formal leadership or management requirement
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Strong technical competence in telecommunications engineering
- Experience operating in multi-stakeholder development projects
- Understanding of procurement frameworks and vendor engagement
- Familiarity with infrastructure delivery in emerging or complex environments
- Ability to provide high-level advisory input alongside practical technical planning
